The SSP-1 series of digital pressure sensors is an ideal solution for pressure sensing in portable and vehicle as well as process control systems where a combination of small size, high accuracy and a digital data interface are required. Typical applications include depth sensing in underwater vehicles and instruments, down-hole instrumentation, and fuel, oil and hydraulic pressure sensing in military vehicles and aviation.

High accuracy and digital data interface
The SSP-1 series sensors achieve high accuracy and exceptional repeatability through multi-point (approx. 1000 points) digital compensation for both temperature and pressure linearity errors. Pressure data is available on both a RS-232 interface and as a TTL level pulse width modulated signal. The sensor is fully user configurable through its serial interface using any terminal program. It can be programmed to transmit data in any desired pressure units such as Pa, mbar, PSI, mmHg or custom units. By selecting one of eight speed settings, the appropriate tradeoff between pressure data repeatability and sample frequency can be selected.

Use in tight spaces, wide media compatibility, selection of pressure ranges
Measuring just 2.35" long and 0.7" diameter, the SSP-1 series of sensors easily fits into tight spaces. A tough stainless steel separation membrane makes the sensor compatible with both corrosive and inert gases and liquids. A 1/4" NPT pressure port is standard, other port configurations are available on request. The SSP-1 series sensors are available in pressure ratings from 15 PSI to 500 PSI. The standard sensors are 100psi (68m) and 500psi (342m) operating ranges. The accuracy of the sensors is 0.2% of full scale, with a data repeatability of down to 0.02%.

Custom applications
The SSP-1 ‘smart sensors’ incorporate a microcontroller with extensive FLASH memory for both code and data. An on-chip kernel supports application download from a PC. Making use of this on-sensor intelligence and extensive storage, Desert Star Systems can develop custom code for your specific application. Possibilities include automatic monitoring of pressure and alarm generation, the implementation of a closed loop control system operated by the SSP-1 and pressure data loggers. Desert Star Systems will also design variations of the sensor for example with different data outputs (RS-485, CANbus etc.) or customer specified form factors.
